What They have done for Our Social Life ?







The health activities programs focuses on HIV/AIDS and drugs prevention as well as reducing child mortality. The Company has pro-actively collaborated with Yayasan Kusuma Buana, an NGO specializing in prevention of HIV/AIDS, to launch a programme evolving around compulsory HIV/AIDS prevention training of its employees by peer educators. In May 2004, the Company received an award from the Indonesian government and International Labour Organization (ILO) for its concern and commitment towards the HIV/AIDS prevention in the workplace. In 2007, Gajah Tunggal became founding member of the Indonesian Business Coalition on Aids (IBCA). This coalition aims to combat HIV/AIDS through the private sector, by the delivery of effective workplace programs that focus on awareness and prevention.
In 2007, the Company received prestigious recognition for its commitment to the United Nations Millennium Development Goals, specifically the efforts of the Company to combat child mortality handed out by Metro TV and endorsed by the United Nations. Around 1 million immunizations shots have been administered to infants and children in the GT Industrial complex and its surrounding community over the decades.
By sponsoring anti-drugs events in cooperation with Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa (YCAB), such as the Lights On in 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, the Company also hopes to protect our loved ones from the temptations of drugs abuse.




Disaster Relief and Community development






In recent years, Indonesia has been unfortunate to experience several severe natural disasters. As part of the larger community, Gajah Tunggal sees it as its responsibility to provide timely and proper support to the needy victims of these disasters. Most disaster relief efforts from the Company are coordinated in collaboration with United in Diversity (UID) Forum. After the Tsunami with the assistance of UID, Gajah Tunggal was one of the donors engaged in the reconstruction of the village of Sirombu, Nias.





In 2008, several donations were made to, amongst others, flooding victims in Central Java and an orphanage. Other activities the Company actively supports are and aiding victims of the Jakarta floods in 2007 and the central Java Earthquake in 2006.






In the GT Industrial complex in Tangerang, Banten, the Company has built a mosque, medical facilities and the main road surrounding the complex. The Company has also sponsored the employees and the surounding community on the Hajj Pilgrimage.


Working with international and Indonesian donors and partners, we also focus in disaster relief, Post-disaster reconstruction, Entrepreneurship, Assistance to persons with disabilities, Elementary education, Hygiene and public health and Environmental conservation.


Education
Gajah Tunggal recently commenced a scholarship program to support students from underprivileged backgrounds throughout their university education. Currently, several students are enrolled in Universitas Indonesia (UI) with a scholarship that they received from Gajah Tunggal and They have held an event "IRC Goes To School, Another Day With IRC"





Environment

Next to the Company’s strong commitment to environmental friendly products and manufacturing processes, in 2007, Gajah Tunggal joined hands with Conservation International (CI) in an effort to combat climate change and protect endangered species, financially contributing to multiple projects. In Indonesia donations will target conservation projects in the Batang Toru conservation area in Northern Sumatra, protecting habitat which is home of threatened species such as the Sumatran orangutan, by amongst others supporting the livelihoods of local communities to ensure the sustainability of the program. These efforts will make Gajah Tunggal the first tire manufacturer to successfully offset its carbon footprints in 2008.
